Northwestern Print: Print and Release for Windows Devices

Installing Print Drivers for Windows

Northwestern faculty and staff with managed computers will have the printing software installed and configured automatically. If you do not see the printers or are using a personal Windows device, you can manually install the print drivers.

To run the Mobility Print Printer Setup Wizard, you will need administrator rights on your device.

Make sure your device is connected to the eduroam WiFi network. If you are off campus, make sure to connect to Northwestern VPN

From your Windows device, click: https://print.northwestern.edu:9164/client-setup/known-host/windows.html

Instructions should appear to Download Mobility Print and Run the Mobility Print Installer to register your mobile device to Northwestern Print.

Select which print queues you want to download based on your role or print need (for example, use the general print queues for a paid or volunteer appointment; use the StudentPay print queues for personal print jobs or student academic needs, including using print quotas). Two-sided, black and white printing (BW-Duplex) is strongly encouraged as a default, though you can install additional queues by repeating this series of steps. Click Next.

Printing and Document Finishing Options

Printing

  1. If you are on campus, make sure you are connected to the eduroam wireless network. If you are off campus, make sure to connect to Northwestern VPN

  1. Print natively from whatever application you are using, and select the appropriate print queue.

  1. Make sure you select any finishing options before you send the job, you will not be able to change these settings from the printer panel.

Document Finishing Options

Duplex Copies:
By default, Northwestern Print MFDs are set for 2-sided (duplex) black and white printing. If for some reason you need to choose this option:

  1. Click the Preferences or Properties button, depending on which program you are using.

  1. A window will pop up. Under Duplex, make sure Open to the Left is chosen. If you are printing two or more pages to a sheet and have auto-rotate turned on, you may need to adjust the auto rotate setting.

Hole Punch & Stapling:

  1. For stapling, select Staple option. Insert paper.

  1. For 3-hole punch, within your document, select File > Print

  1. Select Printer Properties > Finishing tab

  1. Set Hole Punch option as desired and send print job

Finishing Presets:

  1. To save a finishing preset, click the Preferences or Properties button, depending on which program you are in. A window will pop up. On the lower left side you should see 2 buttons, Save and Load below Settings. These are the buttons you will use to set up the presets.

  1. Select the features you want then press Save. Your preset will be saved to the location of your choice.

  1. You will be asked to name the preset and a file location. Choose a name that will help you remember the preset settings.

  1. Click Load, locate the file then click OK.

Note: It is a good idea to keep preset names consistent, so you know what each preset is and where it is located.

Multiple Slides per Page (Powerpoint, Adobe):

  1. Select a Northwestern Print printer.

  1. Under Settings > Slides, select the layout you want.

  1. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.

  1. On the Basic Settings tab, verify Page Layout is set to 1:1.

  1. Click Print.

Note: If your document is not letter size (e.g., A4, Legal, or 11x17), the printers will not be able to release it and it will cause an error.

Print Release
