To manage your @u Google Workspace account, whether that's resetting your email password, adding or removing an email alias, or updating your display name, please follow these steps:
NOTE: This article applies to only students, faculty, and staff with an @u.northwestern.edu Google Workspace account.

Resetting Your @u Password
To update your @u Google Account account password:
- Visit NUValidate and log in with your NetID and NetID password.
- Click the Reset Google Account Password tile on the NUValidate Home page.

- In the Reset Google Account Password window, enter your new password into the New Password and Confirm New Password fields then click the Continue button.

- In the Success window, click the Done button.

- Once the password has successfully been changed, you can log into your Google email account via Google Mail.
Adding an Alternate Email Aliases
Your official student email address will reflect your name as listed in CAESAR, typically formatted as FirstnameLastnameYear@u.northwestern.edu. You can add up to two additional aliases or nicknames, on your email account by logging in via NUValidate page.
- An alias is an additional email address. For example, a nickname for WillardWildcat2028@u.northwestern.edu could be williew@u.northwestern.edu.
- You can send and receive mail sent to your official account name or any of your account aliases.
Once you have set up an email alias, you can modify your email settings to send email from your alias. Email sent to your alias will automatically come to your email account with no need for additional setup.
Note: creating a nickname does not change your official email address. You will still need to log in using your official email address.
To begin adding a Google Email Alias:
- Visit NUValidate and log in with your NetID and NetID password.
- Click the Add Google Email Alias tile on the NUValidate Home page.

- Enter your desired alias in the Add Alias field and then click the Continue button.
Note: aliases need to be all lower case and cannot contain any special characters.

- In the Success window, click the Done button.

- If you wish to add an additional alias, repeat Steps 1-4.
Removing an Alternate Email Aliases
- Visit NUValidate and log in with your NetID and NetID password.
- Click the Remove Google Email Aliases tile on the NUValidate Home page.

- Select the alias you wish to remove in the Remove Google Account Aliases window and then click the Continue button
Note: you can only remove one alias at a time.

- In the Success window, click the Done button. Your email alias has now been removed from your @u account.

Changing Your Display Name
Your display name determines how you appear to people. In your Google Workspace email, that's your sender name. In Canvas or CAESAER, that's your NUValidate display name.
Changing a FERPA Email Address
If you need to change to or from a FERPA email address, please contact servicedesk@northwestern.edu for assistance.
Updating Your Graduation Year
