Setting up your @northwestern.edu (Microsoft 365) account on iOS (iPhone or iPad)

While you can use either Microsoft Outlook for iOS or the built-in Mail and Calendar apps to access your Northwestern Exchange account, you will have a much better experience using Outlook. However, the choice of which app to use is yours. Instructions for configuring both can be found below. Just make sure you don't use the Microsoft 365 app for iOS because it lacks essential functionality.

 

Microsoft Outlook for iOS

  1. Enter your @northwestern.edu email address and tap Add Account
  2. When prompted with the Northwestern Online Passport
    • Your @northwestern.edu email address should already be populated as the Username
    • Enter your NetID password as the Password
    • Tap Sign in
  3. If prompted to add another account, tap Maybe Later
  4. Choose whether or not to enable notifications

iOS Mail App

  1. Tap Settings > Passwords & Accounts (iOS 11 and above)
  2. If you see an existing Northwestern Exchange account listed, tap it. If not, skip to step 4.
  3. Tap Delete Account and confirm deletion.
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Microsoft Exchange
  6. Enter the following information:
    • Email: your full @northwestern.edu account 
    • Description: Northwestern
  7. Tap Next, then tap Sign In
  8. When prompted with the Northwestern Online Passport
    • Your @northwestern.edu email address should already be populated as the Username
    • Enter your NetID password as the Password
    • Tap Sign in
  9. Tap Continue
  10. Select the functions of your account you want to synchronize with your phone, then click Save
