While you can use either Microsoft Outlook for iOS or the built-in Mail and Calendar apps to access your Northwestern Exchange account, you will have a much better experience using Outlook. However, the choice of which app to use is yours. Instructions for configuring both can be found below. Just make sure you don't use the Office 365 app for iOS because it lacks essential functionality. Make sure you are connected to the secure Northwestern network when configuring your Northwestern Exchange account on your mobile device. Don't use Guest-Northwestern or Device-Northwestern, or any other network.
Microsoft Outlook
- When prompted for an email address, enter your @northwestern.edu email address, then tap Add Account
- When a window prompts for your username and password, enter:
- Username: ads[your NetID]
- Password: your NetID password
- Tap Sign in
- Toggle Use Advanced Settings
- Enter the following:
- Password: your NetID password
- Description: Northwestern
- Server: mail.northwestern.edu
- Domain: ads
- Username: your NetID
- Tap Sign in
iOS Mail App
- Tap Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account (iOS 11 and above)
- Tap Microsoft Exchange
- Enter the following information:
- Email: your full @northwestern.edu account
- Description: Northwestern
- Tap Next, then tap Sign In
- When prompted with the Northwestern Online Passport
- Your @northwestern.edu email address should already be populated as the Username
- Enter your NetID password as the Password
- Tap Sign in
- Tap Continue
- Select the functions of your account you want to synchronize with your phone, then click Save
