1Password - Troubleshooting: Account Recovery

If you are unable to unlock 1Password — for example, if you are logged out of all devices, can’t sign in, or are having trouble adding a new device — a Northwestern 1Password administrator can initiate the Account Recovery process on your behalf.

When your account is recovered:

  • You will regain access to all the data you had before.
  • You will need to sign in again on all your devices once recovery is complete.

Begin Recovery

The Account Recovery process must be initiated by a 1Password administrator. This may happen as part of troubleshooting another issue, or by direct request.

To Request Account Recovery:

  • Or submit a Request Form to open a TDx ticket
  • A 1Password administrator will then initiate the recovery process for your account

Once the Recovery is started for your account, you'll receive an email from 1Password:

When you click Recover my account in the email, a page will open in your default browser, and you’ll be prompted to set up your linked apps and browsers again.

Click Sign in with Microsoft. Once you successfully authenticate with NetID, 1Password administrators will be notified that you are ready to complete your Account Recovery.

Look for another email when a 1Password administrator completes your Account Recovery:

Sign back into 1Password on all your apps and devices.
