Using Fiscal Year & Accounting Period Filters in Cognos Financials Self-Service

Summary

Self-service Cognos reports using Financials data will no longer require prompt values to execute the report.

Additional fields have been added to allow for self-service reports to automatically run for the current or previous fiscal periods.

What's Changing?

Beginning in December 2025, user-created reports within the Cognos Report Studio Financials (i.e., PS_EPM_ADHOC) data package will no longer see required prompts on fields Accounting Period, Budget Year, and Fiscal Year. However, running a report without user supplied parameters for these three fields will result in the filters defaulting to using the current Accounting Period/Fiscal Year:

Configuration Steps

Users may now run reports for the Current or Previous periods without specifying static values in the report's filters. This is especially useful when scheduling reports to run every month.

1. Open an existing report in edit mode that uses the PS_EPM_ADHOC's package, or create a new report using the PS_EPM_ADHOC package.
2. Expand either the Ledger KK Summary or Ledger KK Detail star. Existing reports should open the star already being used.
3. Open the main report query.
4. In the Insertable Objects pane, expand Fiscal Period > Advanced Fields.

5. Drag the field Current and Previous Month Flag into the Detail Filter section of the report query:

   

6. Within the expression definition section of the filter, code the field filter to equal 'Previous Fiscal Month' to return data from the last fiscal month, or 'Current Fiscal Month' for the present month:

   

Now when the report is scheduled, the results will always show the prior or current period's data, without having to manually edit the filter each month.
