Graduate Student Progress - Adviser and Committee Restrictions

Schools and programs can define rules in GSP that determine how students configure their advisers and committees, including the total number of members required, role assignments, and graduate faculty requirements.

Adviser and Committee Settings

Adviser and committee restrictions are defined at either the school or program level. If restrictions are set at the school level, programs overseen by that school cannot modify them.

To view applicable restrictions, navigate to the Adviser/Committee tab in the school or program settings. If editing is permitted, select Edit Restrictions to make updates.

Note: TGS programs cannot edit adviser and committee restrictions because these rules are defined at the school level. For questions, please contact The Graduate School.

Student Profiles

When a student’s advisers or committee do not meet requirements, a message will display at the top of their profile on relevant pages.

The issues must be resolved before the student can forward their adviser and committee construction for review or submit forms requiring their approval.
