To change or enter your name as you would like it to be displayed in University systems, follow the steps below. To learn more about how to use the different name fields, whom to contact for support and more, visit Institutional Diversity & Inclusion's Frequently Asked Questions page.
Instructions (Staff, faculty, students and non-student temporary staff*)
- Navigate to https://nuvalidate.northwestern.edu and sign in with your NetID and password.
- Click the “Edit Online Directory Information” tile on the homepage of NUValidate.
- Find the Name fields and Pronouns single-select list. Here, you can edit your name and pronouns, then click “Submit” at the bottom of the screen to save.
Please note that the time for updates to show will vary by system, and may take up to a few days to appear everywhere.

My legal or dead name still shows in my email address
You may have been admitted to the University, or hired, using a name you do not use, and your email address may reflect that name. You are, however, able to set up a new email address to use the name you wish.

If your email alias does not reflect the name you use, or the name you would like shared with our community, you may change it by emailing the correct alias to kis@kellogg.northwestern.edu.
Feinberg / McGaw Medical Resident Names and Pronouns

Affiliate Names and Pronouns
Your display name is defined within NUValidate. If your name is incorrect or you need to change it, please reach out to
servicedesk@northwestern.edu.
Canvas
When a name or pronoun update is saved in NUValidate, it will appear in Canvas within 24 hours, as long as the user has active enrollments in CAESAR. Please be aware that updates will only apply to active CAESAR-based enrollments. If a user does not have any active enrollments, the changes will not be reflected.
