Northwestern University has switched to using Microsoft OneDrive in favor of Northwestern Box for personal document storage. This document is intended to help guide the uninstallation of Box Drive software.
Box must not be running for uninstallation to complete successfully. To do so:
- Right-click Box Drive from the system tray and click Quit Box Drive.
- If there are too many icons, you may need to click the up arrow to expand the system tray before being able to find the Box Drive icon.
To uninstall the Box Drive application from your machine:
- Search Uninstall from the Start Menu and click Add or remove programs.
- Use the search tool under Apps & features to find Box Drive and click Uninstall > Uninstall.
To remove all traces of the Box Drive application from your machine:
- From File Explorer, navigate to
C:\ProgramData\Box
and delete the Box subfolder.
- This directory may be hidden by default. To reveal hidden items, navigate to the View tab and click the checkbox next to Hidden Items.
- Open Registry Editor and delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Box\Box
.
- Go to
C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Box
and delete the Box subfolder.
- If the machine has multiple user accounts, log in using each user account and repeat steps 3 and 4.
