What is File Requests in SharePoint:
File Requests in SharePoint is a feature that simplifies the process of collecting files from multiple contributors. It allows you to create a request for specific documents, images, or any file type within a SharePoint library or folder. By sharing a unique link, you invite individuals to upload files directly to a designated location in your SharePoint, streamlining the collection process and keeping all files organized in one place.
With the file request feature in SharePoint, you can choose a folder where others can upload files using a link that you send them. People you request files from can only upload files; they can't see the content of the folder, edit, delete, or download files, or even see who else has uploaded files. This is available to SharePoint sites that have Anonymous access or anyone with a link access enabled. If you are a SharePoint site collection admin and your site does not have "anyone with a link access" enabled you can request to have this enabled for your SharePoint site. Anyone with a link access is not available for OneDrive sites.
With a file request:
- Anyone with the file request link can send you a file; they don't need to have OneDrive or SharePoint.
- All the files sent to you are saved in a single folder that you choose.
- Every file will have a prefix to help you identify who uploaded it.
- If two files with the same name are uploaded, SharePoint will automatically add a number to the name of the second file.
- People who respond to your request can only upload files. They can’t view or edit the contents of your OneDrive.
- Set expiration date on your file request link where after a date you specify the link will be disabled.
