Summary

This article provides a high-level process to follow when a computer is lost or stolen and needing to update the relevant asset within the TDX Asset Management Module

Body

Abstract: This article is intended to provide process guidance for when a computer is lost or stolen and actions relevant to the Asset Management system.

Consideration Action
Is the computer in question managed or unmanaged? If managed, check the primary management system (ex. Jamf or MECM) to assess recent activity and whether a location can be identified.
Is the computer hard disk encrypted? Search either MBAM, MECM, or Jamf for a record confirming encryption status
If the computer can't be located report it lost or stolen with NUPD                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       To report a stolen computer at Northwestern University, first contact University Police or Northwestern's Information Security Office. Additionally, report the loss to Risk and Insurance at risk@northwestern.edu. Within 30 days, file a claim with University Risk Management by selecting "Report an Incident" and indicating "NU Property Damage". Include the police report number, and invoices for the stolen and replacement property.
