Windows 11 Self-service Upgrade Available for Northwestern IT Managed and Compatible Computers

This article is designed to guide owners of Northwestern IT managed computers through a self-service option for upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11

Windows 11 Self-Service Upgrade Available:

If your laptop is currently running the Windows 10 operating system and the laptop hardware is compatible with Windows 11 you will find the upgrade available to you within your Software Center.

1. Please make a connection to VPN using your installed GlobalProtect VPN client

2. Once the VPN connection is established, navigate to your Windows search and type “software center” and enter.  Click on “Updates” in the left panel:

3. You may see several updates that are either scheduled to install or in some other status.  Locate the “Windows 11, version…” update similar to the one shown below.

If you’re ready to run the update, make sure you are connected to VPN and select “Install All” in the top right of your software center dialogue.

4. When the Windows 11 update starts, you’ll be presented with the prompt below confirming that you wish to proceed.  If you’re ready to proceed select “Install”.

You may select cancel and the update will return to the “available” status.

***Please note*** that the full update process may take 60-90 minutes depending on whether you are connected in the office or at home; however, most of the Windows 11 update occurs in the background allowing you to continue working.  You will eventually be prompted to reboot, which signifies the final phase of the update.  This reboot/update sequence may take 10-15 minutes to complete.
