If an NVivo project file becomes corrupted, you can try to recover it by following the steps below.
Step 1: Create a New Project File
- Open NVivo and create a New Project.
- Enter a new project file name.
- Browse to the location where you want to save the new project file.
- Click Next.

Step 2: Configure Project Settings
- Set the Auto Save option to No.
- Leave all other default settings as they are.
- Click Create Project.

Step 3: Import the Corrupted Project File
- Once the new project file is created, go to the Import tab.

- In the Import Project window, click Browse to select the corrupted file.
- Select your file and click Open.

- In the For Duplicate Items section, select Create New Item.

Step 4: Review the Import Report
When the import process is complete, NVivo generates a report and opens a new document tab labeled Import Project Results – Report Results. You can review the report or close it by clicking the X in the tab.

Step 5: Verify the New Project
Your new project file is now ready to be worked on. If the recovery was successful, you can resume coding in the new project.
If the issue persists or the project file remains corrupt, please escalate directly to Lumivero Support:
- Create a Lumivero Community Account.
- Submit a Support Request.
Preventing NVivo Project File Corruption
1. Always Close Files Before Quitting the Application
- Go to the File tab.
- Click on Close.


2. Update Project Settings for Network Drives
- On the NVivo home screen, click Application Options.
- In the Application Options window, set Update projects on network drives to On save instead of On close.
