The SAS System is an integrated suite of software with modularly designed tools for data warehousing, EIS, OLAP, rapid application development, and applied analysis.
In addition to license for purchase, SAS also offers two no-cost options with limited modules for faculty, staff, and students using SAS for teaching, learning, or research.

SAS License for Purchase
If you are using SAS for University business, want your own copy, or require additional modules not available via the no-cost options listed above, you can purchase a license:
SAS 9.4 is available for both 32 and 64 bit Windows and Linux systems. The Northwestern SAS license includes the following modules:

- Faculty/Staff
- Initial/Renewal/Upgrade License — Visit Northwestern's software provider CDW-G.
- Students
- Initial/Renewal/Upgrade License — Visit Northwestern's software provider, OnTheHub.
- Add-on Modules — Purchase additional modules from the SAS Institute.
Install and License
- 32 and 64 bit versions are available for Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Eligible users - Faculty/Staff — This software is for use by full-time faculty and staff of Northwestern University for University purposes and must be installed on university-owned computer.
- Eligible users - Students — This software is for use by students of Northwestern University for academic purposes.
- SAS is available on the University Library computers for student use.
- Home use provision — Software can be used by full-time Northwestern University faculty or staff on a personal computer for University purposes. To do so, a license agreement form must be completed and submitted to Northwestern IT Software Site License. NOTE: Home Use requires a current PAID license. Please fully complete the Home Use form including the purchased SAS Order Number to be eligible for an additional license.
- The license period for SAS coincides with the University's fiscal year, beginning on September 1 and expiring on August 31. Those who purchase a FY-2014 license will be eligible for free upgrades until the end of that fiscal year, August 31.
- Due to this renewal timing, Northwestern IT advises against purchasing a new or renewal license in August; purchases should only be made when project needs take precedence over manufacturer release of the upcoming fiscal year's license.
