Audio Recording in Cresap 105

  • Push the front panel volume control to switch on both MOTU Ultralite
    devices.

  • Under System Preferences -> Sound, set input and output sound devices to "MOTU Ultralite" on both desktop iMacs.

  • On the left iMac, launch Audacity and ensure that MOTU Ultralite is selected as the speaker and recording device.

  • Attach the headmounted mic to the XLR cable in the booth.

  • On the left iMac, click the mic icon and select "Start Monitoring".

  • Speak into the microphone and adjust the trim controls on the MOTU Ultralite while watching Audacity's input levels.
  • Aim for a recording level that's close to the top end of the green/yellow range. Avoid recording at levels that are too high (red)

Screen Mirroring

The floating monitor is connected to the iMac on the right and is set up as an extended desktop. Everything displayed on the floating monitor will appear in the monitor in the booth.

Wireless Trackpad

  • To avoid picking up audible mouse clicks through the microphone while recording a subject, the wireless trackpad has been modified to detect finger taps as mouse clicks.
  • Tapping lightly on the trackpad will trigger a mouse event and is the recommended method for detecting user input.
  • Press and hold the power button on the right side of the trackpad to turn on. A green light on the trackpad will appear briefly and a "trackpad connected" message will appear on the iMac.

Wireless trackpad

  • To disconnect, press and hold the same power button on the right side of the trackpad.
