Note: The attachments contain a job aid related to this article.

An ancillary review for F&A Waiver is required on a funding proposal or award. Ancillary reviews take place concurrently with the normal review workflows and can be added to funding proposals, awards, award modifications, and agreements.

Please review the following guidelines before submitting an F&A Waiver Ancillary Review:

  • In general Northwestern University does not waive F&A.
  • F&A Waivers requested for application/awards sponsored by “for profit” companies will not be approved
  • Uniform Guidance expressly prohibits a federal sponsor from requiring a reduced or waived F&A unless it is a necessary part of the program (e.g. training grants)
  • The justification for the F&A Waiver should align with the Northwestern University mission.
