Add PI Eligibility Ancillary Review

Note: The attachments contain a job aid related to this article.

An ancillary review for PI Eligibility is used to request permission for a Northwestern University individual currently in a position but not eligible to submit a grant proposal. It is required on a funding proposal or award. Ancillary reviews take place concurrently with the normal review workflows and can be added to funding proposals, awards, award modifications, and agreements.

Note: Requests for a Northwestern University individual currently in a position but not eligible to be a PI on a proposal/award should be requested, at minimum, 3 weeks prior to the proposal deadline.

  1. Click the name of the project where you want to assign an ancillary reviewer.
  2. Click Manage Ancillary Reviews.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click the ellipses next to Organization and select Anc Rvw-PI Eligibility.
  5. Click the Review Type arrow and select PI Eligibility.
  6. Select Yes to indicate a response is required.
  7. Provide the rationale/justification for the individual to be the C0-PI/Co-I in the Comments section.
  8. Attach the following under Supporting documents:
    • PI/Co-PI/Co-I Biosketch
    • Solicitation
    • Mostly finalized budget and budget justification
    • Confirmation from the Department Chair/Mentor or other responsible departmental representative that any disallowed funds will be covered from non-sponsored accounts, and that administrative support in grants management will be provided.
    • Any other documentation supporting the request or necessary for review.
  9. Click OK or OK and Add Another to repeat the process.

You are returned to the project workspace. The assigned ancillary reviewers receive email notifications, and the project appears in My Inbox for each of them.
