Connecting to eduroam for Windows - Certificate

NOTE: Only Firefox, Chrome, and Edge are supported for Windows for the setup and installation of SecureW2 JoinNow for eduroam. Other browsers may be incompatible with the JoinNow process. If you use another browser, you must set your system’s default browser to one of the supported browsers before running the JoinNow software. You may set your default browser back once the SecureW2 JoinNow installation has been completed.
  1. Make sure you have set up Duo multi-factor Authentication prior to completing the below steps.
  2. Choose which method you would like to start with depending on if you are on campus and whether or not you actively have an internet connection.

    A. On or Off Campus with Internet Connection
If your device is currently connected to the Internet, click this link eduroam-setup and you will be re-directed to SecureW2 JoinNow portal to have your device configured to connect to eduroam. This option will work even if you are not on the Northwestern University campus but still have internet connection.

Click here to get started from your device

    B. On Campus with No Active Internet Connection
If you are not yet connected to the Internet and are on campus you can connect to the "eduroam-setup" Network/SSID. Once connected, you will automatically be re-directed to www.northwestern.edu/network. Click the Continue Onboarding button to start the process.

  3. Click JoinNow.
  4. The Northwestern_Network_Installer.exe file will begin to download. When complete, run the downloaded application.

If you are unable to find the download from your browser's download manager, open File Explorer > Downloads and run Northwestern_Network_Installer.exe.
  5. The application may ask for permissions to make changes to your computer. When prompted, click Yes.
  6. JoinNow will run. Click Next.
  7. You will be directed to the Microsoft Sign In page where you can enter your Northwestern email address.
  8. You will be redirected to the Northwestern WebSSO page where you can enter your NetID and NetID password. Click Sign in
If installing on someone else's device, have that person log in to WebSSO using their own NetID.  Never use your NetID to login for another person.

  9. Complete the login process by authenticating through Duo verified push.
  10. If prompted if you would like to stay signed in, click Yes.
  11. The certificate will enroll on your machine, followed by a Joined message when complete. You may see a tab similar as below confirming successful login. You may safely close this tab.

  12. If you are in range of eduroam, your device should automatically connect. Click Done to exit the installer.

If you are not in range of eduroam, the following window may show instead. Click Continue to exit the installer.
