NOTE: Only the stock Chrome browser is supported for ChromeOS for the setup and installation of SecureW2 JoinNow for eduroam. Other browsers may be incompatible with the JoinNow process. If you use another browser, you must set your system’s default browser to one of the supported browsers before running the JoinNow software. You may set your default browser back once the SecureW2 JoinNow installation has been completed.
- Make sure you have set up Duo multi-factor Authentication prior to completing the below steps.
-
Choose which method you would like to start with depending on if you are on campus and whether or not you actively have an internet connection.
A. On or Off Campus with Internet Connection
If your device is currently connected to the Internet, click this link eduroam-setup and you will be re-directed to SecureW2 JoinNow portal to have your device configured to connect to eduroam. This option will work even if you are not on the Northwestern University campus but still have internet connection.

B. On Campus with No Active Internet Connection

- Click Install to be directed to the Chrome Web Store for the SecureW2 JoinNow extension.

- Click Add to Chrome.

- Click Add extension to install.

- When the JoinNow MultiOS has been added to Chrome message appears, you can close out of the Chrome Web Store tab to return to the SecureW2 JoinNow page.

You can confirm the extension was installed successfully by clicking the puzzle icon and viewing it in the list of extensions.

- Click Sign In.

- You will be directed to the Microsoft Sign In page where you can enter your Northwestern email address.

- You will be redirected to the Northwestern WebSSO page where you can enter your NetID and NetID password. Click Sign in.
If installing on someone else's device, have that person log in to WebSSO using their own NetID. Never use your NetID to login for another person.

- Complete the login process by authenticating through Duo verified push.

- If prompted if you would like to stay signed in, click Yes.

- Click Download to generate a certificate key for your device.

- You should receive two notifications about the finished download, and a new Network tab should open in Chrome. If a tab does not automatically open, open a new tab and navigate to
chrome://general/#network
.

- Scroll to the bottom of the page, under Import ONC File, and click Choose File.

- Select the SecureW2.onc file, which should be in the Downloads folder by default.

The Import ONC File section should update and read Networks imported: 1 beneath it.

- Download two additional certificates by clicking the two links here:
Northwestern Device Root CA
Northwestern Device Intermediate CA
- Open a new tab and navigate to
chrome://certificate-manager
. Click Authorities, then Import.

- In the bottom-left corner of the file explorer that opens, change the dropdown filter to DER-encoded binary, single certificate and open the Northwestern Device Root CA file.

- Check Trust this certificate for identifying websites and click OK.

- Repeat steps 18 and 19 for Northwestern Device Intermediate CA.
- Once both certificates have been successfully imported and appear under org-Northwestern, you must restart your computer.

- Connect to the eduroam network. On first connection after installing the ONC profile, ChromeOS should open the Join Wi-Fi network configuration settings.

Make sure that Server CA certificate is set to Default.

Do not change any other settings.
- Click Connect. Your device should now connect to eduroam.

If it does not connect, please reboot your machine once more and attempt to connect to eduroam again using step 22.
