Salesforce Selected as Strategic Application/Data Platform for SESP

Historically, SESP has mirrored the structure of Northwestern with significant decentralization in the operations of our programs and centers. Organically, the use of Salesforce has grown such that Salesforce is now SESP’s largest single software partner by yearly expense.  Salesforce is utilized with enormous success by CTD and MSLOC.  Building on this foundation, a strategic decision has been made to prioritize the use of Salesforce as a common application/data platform and to begin work towards enabling cost effective access to Salesforce more broadly across SESP.

Shared Salesforce Development and Support Resources

To effectively facilitate this work, SESP has begun relocating our Salesforce development talent in CTD (Andrew Bauer and Qili Sui) into the SESP IT team within the Dean’s Office.  Centralizing our Salesforce expertise will help SESP advance key projects and priorities, achieve greater efficiency, flexibility, career growth, and cost management coordination around Salesforce development and support.  Andre and Qili will officially join the SESP IT team on May 1st 2025.  To support a smooth transition, they will both continue to utilize CTD as their primary office until after completion of this summer’s CTD session.

SESP Salesforce Advisory Committee

Building on the success of both CTD and MSLOC in effectively leveraging Salesforce to increase the efficiency and agility of their staff and operations, SESP will form a Salesforce Advisory Committee co-chaired by Susan Corwith and Michael Hannen.  The committee will be tasked with providing insight, guidance, and recommendations to all SESP programs and centers with the shared goal of the successful, sustainable, and broad distribution of advanced application and data capabilities across SESP.   Coordination of the committee will begin shortly.  The committee will initially meet monthly, with each meeting featuring an update from SESP IT concerning ongoing Salesforce work, requests from SESP IT for committee input on prioritization and planning, and other topics as determined by the committee.

The committee membership will include representatives of CTD, Dean’s Office, MSED, MSHE, MSLOC and other SESP programs and centers which would benefit from a SESP supported Salesforce org. The formation of the committee is in the planning stage and additional information will be provided shortly.
