Most research teams at SESP store their Nvivo project files on Northwestern’s ResFiles storage solution.
When working with Nvivo project files stored on ResFiles or another “network drive”, there is an important setting in Nvivo that should be changed to help ensure you do not lose valuable work.
Start by selecting the File dropdown in the Nvivo application.
Next, in the General tab, change the setting shown below to “On save” vs the default of “On close”
Finally, click Apply in the bottom right corner of the Applications Options screen.
This will ensure that each time you save a project, the changes are saved to the project file on the ResFiles or any other network drive.
With the default setting of “On close” saves are stored in a temporary copy of the project file, and are not actually saved to the project file on the network share until the user closes the project file.
