Managing your Duo authentication devices and option can be found in the Managed Devices section of the Duo login page. The following article will walk you through the steps one how to get to:
- Navigate to Duo Managed Devices
- Add a New Device
- Add a Duo Mobile Device
- Add a TouchID or Windows Hello Device
- Add a YubiKey or hardware token
- Remove a Device
Navigate to Duo Managed Devices
You will need a computer to complete this section.
- On your computer open an incognito or private browser window
- Log in to NUValidate at https://nuvalidate.northwestern.edu
NOTE: If you are already logged in, you will need to use a new browser or a private browser window to trigger the Duo authentication page.
- After entering your NetID and NetID password, ignore the Duo prompt to verify your login and instead click on Other options near the bottom of the window.

- Click on Manage devices

- Verify your identity through one of your available options to manage your Duo devices.
NOTE: Step 4 and
Step 5 seem almost identical, but are necessary to get to
Manage devices in Duo.
Step 5 is asking you to verify your identity through Duo
before it will allow you to see, add, or manage any of your Duo devices. If you do not have an active Duo verification option,
contact the IT Service Desk.

- After you have confirmed this is your account via Duo login, you'll be in the Manage Devices page for Duo. From here you can add or remove Duo authentication methods.

Add a new device
This section will require both your computer and smart phone to complete.
After completing Steps 1-6 in Navigate to Duo Manage Devices and you do not see your phone number listed as one of the available options:
- Click Add a device tile

- Select your desired authentication method and follow the on-screen prompts to configure your new device.

- Select which kind of authentication device you want to add:
- Add a Duo Mobile Device
- Add a TouchID or Windows Hello Device
- Add a YubiKey or hardware token
Add a Duo Mobile Device
- In the Select a Device pop-up window, select Duo Mobile.

- In the Enter your phone number pop-up window, type your cell phone number into the Phone number field. Then click the Continue button.

- Confirm that the listed phone number is correct and then click the Yes, it's correct button.

- On your mobile device, download the Duo Mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. Then click the Next button.

- A QR Code will appear in the Scan this code in Duo Mobile pop-up window.

- On your smart phone, open the Duo Mobile app.

- In the Duo Mobile app, tap the blue Add button

- Tap the Use QR Code in the Add account window

- The app will open the camera on your phone, you will need to point your camera at QR code provided in Step 6.
- Once scanned, the Duo App will ask you to confirm the name of the account. You can leave the name as Northwestern University and tap the done button.

- In the Duo Mobile app on your phone, you will see Northwestern University listed in under your accounts.

- Congratulations! You successfully added your Northwestern account to the Duo Mobile app. You can confirm the app is working correctly by opening a different browser or incognito window and signing into NUValidate at https://nuvalidate.northwestern.edu or another authenticated Northwestern system.
Add a TouchID or Windows Hello Device
- In the Select a Device pop-up window, select Duo Mobile.

- In the Setup TouchID or Setup Windows Hello pop-up window, click the Continue button.

- Your browser will prompt you with the steps to set to complete TouchID or Windows hello. Follow the steps to complete the setup process. The steps are different depending on your browser and operating system.

Remove a Device
This section will require your computer to complete.
Once you are in Duo Manage Devices, you can remove any of your Duo authentication methods listed by:
- Click Edit option in the top-right corner of any of your available authentication methods.
NOTE: If you only have one authentication method, you will not see the Edit option

- From the drop down menu, click Delete.

- In the Delete pop-up window, click the Delete button.

Requesting Assistance
If you can no longer authenticate using Duo Mobile, contact the Northwestern University IT Service Desk at 847-491-4357 (1-HELP).
When Calling: Please have a valid Wildcard or valid government ID available for identity verification if necessary.
If you are unable to contact Northwestern University IT by phone for assistance, send an email message to servicedesk@northwestern.edu. Be sure to include your NetID and a description of your situation. Our agents will review your ticket and follow up with potential next steps.
