What is needed to create an alumni email account?

An Our Northwestern account is needed prior to registering for an alumni email account. If you do not have an account already, please register at Our Northwestern.

You must also have a completed degree with Northwestern University.

How do I create an alumni email account?

To create a new alumni email account, you can visit the Alumni Email Registration page on Our Northwestern and follow the prompts on the screen.

Please note, if you are a Kellogg graduate, you will receive an @kelloggalumni address. All other graduates will receive an @alum address.

I forgot the password for my alumni email account, what can I do?

In most cases, your preferred email address acts as the recovery email for your alumni email account. When signing into your alumni account on Gmail, click ‘forgot password?’ and a recovery password will be sent to your preferred email address.

To find your preferred email address, go to My Account > My Information on Our Northwestern. You can also update your preferred email address on this page. Please allow 24 – 48 hours for processing changes.

If you are still experiencing issues recovering your password, you can contact the Northwestern Service Desk by sending an email to consultant@northwestern.edu or by phone at 847-491-4357 (1-HELP).

Please note: changes to your preferred email address will not carry over as an update to the recovery email on file for your alumni email account. If you desire to change your recovery email address you will have to do so within Gmail settings.

How long can I keep my alumni email account?

Accounts will remain in place if they are being used. Accounts which are not being accessed/opened and which have no email forwarding rules enabled will be removed after two years of inactivity. Attempts will be made to notify owners prior to account removal.

Can I change my alumni email address?

Email addresses are generated in the following format:

              First Name + Middle Initial + Last Name + Most Recent Degree Year

These email addresses cannot be changed once created.

If you would like your name changed on your Our Northwestern profile prior to creating an alumni email account, you can do so at My Account > My Information. Please allow 24 – 48 hours for processing these changes.
