Mailing lists are an easy way to reach a lot of people very quickly by automating the distribution of email to all those who subscribe to the mailing list. Mailing lists have been a critical component of scholarly collaboration. Many colleges and universities also use them to facilitate and enhance classroom education. Since mailing lists/distribution lists are also Active Directory security groups they can be used to grant permissions to SharePoint sites as well as OneDrive documents. They can also be used to populate Microsoft Teams Groups initially but will not update the members of the Team dynamically.
