Managing your voicemail messages and preferences using your phone

You can manage your voicemail messages and preferences using any phone.

First log in to the voicemail system. The way you access it varies slightly depending on the type of phone you're using.

Using your Cisco office phone

  1. Call 7-7777 or press the Messages button
  2. Enter your PIN then press the # key

Using your Non Cisco office phone

  1. Call 8-8888
  2. Press the * key
  3. Enter your ID (5-digit phone number), then press the # key.
  4. Enter your PIN then press the # key.

Using a non University phone

  1. Call 847-467-7777
  2. Press the * key
  3. Enter your ID (5-digit phone number), then press the # key.
  4. Enter your PIN then press the # key

Once you've logged in, you can perform various functions.

Record your personalized voicemail greeting

You can save a personalized greeting on your voicemail, as well as record a temporary out-of-office greeting. By default, Unity will read your name as it appears in the directory when it answers a call for you. The voicemail system will call you at a specified phone number so that you can record and play back audio. By default, the number to be called is your office phone number, but you can replace that with any valid telephone number.
  1. Press 4, followed by 1, then 3
  2. To access your standard greeting, press 1
    1. To access other greetings, press 3, followed by 1
  3. Record your greeting, then press the # key to save

Change your voicemail PIN

You have the option of listening to your voicemail messages on your computer or on your phone. To listen to messages on your phone, you need to enter a PIN to access your voice mailbox. If you've forgotten your voicemail PIN, you'll need to use the Online instructions to reset it.
  1. Press 4, followed by 3, then 1
  2. Enter your old PIN, then when prompted your new PIN 
  3. Enter your new PIN once more to confirm
Note the following PIN requirements:
  • Your PIN must be six digits long.
  • Your PIN cannot be a series of repeating numbers or a sequence of numbers (e.g., not 111111 or 123456).
  • Your new PIN must be different from your old PIN by at least one number.
  • You need to change your PIN once a year. You will receive a message 15 days before expiration reminding you to change it.

Record your name

By default, the voicemail system reads your name as it appears in the directory when a caller reaches your voicemail box. You can personalize your recorded name.
  1. Press 4, followed by 3, then 3
  2. Record your name, then press the # key to save

Listen to and manage your voicemail messages

  • Press 1 to listen to new messages
  • Press 3 to listen to saved messages
