Some owners may want to export a copy of their subscribers as a backup, or import a list of subscribers from another list. While there is not a command to move or transfer listserv subscribers, you can export subscribers from your old list and then import them into your new list.
Exporting subscribers from a list
- Log in to the Northwestern Listserv Web Interface at https://listserv.it.northwestern.edu
- On the top menu, click List Management, then click List Dashboard.
- Find the name of the listserv you would like to manage, then click [View] in the Subscribers column for that row.
- In the "Report Columns" section, check the boxes for the elements you want in the report.
- If you uncheck all of the boxes, your report will just give you names and email addresses.
- If you have modified any individual subscribers' settings, we suggest you use Check All.
- Under Report Format, change the dropdown box to the desired format. If you will be importing the list of subscribers into a new list, use CSV Format (All).
- Click Submit.
Note: The file you export will always have the same name, "wa-report". If you intend to export multiple lists, make sure you rename the files to avoid getting them confused or overwriting the files.
If you are planning on importing this list of subscribers into another listserv, you will need to open the .csv file, then use Save As to save the list of subscribers as a plain text (.txt, Tab Delimited) file.
Importing subscribers to a list
Note: To import subscribers into a list, you will need a plain text (.txt) file. Each line of the file should contain the email address of the person, a tab or space, and the person's name (example: johndoe@northwestern.edu John Doe). You must have only one email address per line.
- Log in to the Northwestern Listserv Web Interface at https://listserv.it.northwestern.edu
- On the top menu, click List Management, then click Subscriber Reports.
- Use the Select List dropdown menu to choose the list you would like to import the subscribers into.
- Click the Bulk Operations hyperlink (next to Add Subscriber)
- Leave the Function set to the default, "Add the imported addresses to the list."
- Next to Input File, click Choose File.
- Navigate to the location of your .txt file and open it. You will see that the file name is listed to the right of Choose File.
- Click Import.
