Feinberg - Enrolling in HIPAA training

If you are a member of the Northwestern community whose responsibilities include the collection, manipulation, or use of patient health information, or who have incidental contact with such information, you must complete and pass a HIPAA certification course.

Most University researchers and clinicians needing HIPAA certification should complete the HIPAA Certification module in myHR Learn. However, Feinberg faculty and staff must complete CITI’s HIPAA, Security and Privacy Training course. Use these steps for enrolling in this course.

  1. Go to www.citiprogram.org, and from the upper right select Log In.
  2. Click Log In Through My Institution. Scroll down to and click Northwestern University. When prompted to authenticate through Northwestern, enter your NetID and NetID password.
    • The first time you log in, click the radio button labelled I don't have a CITI Program account and I need to create one.
  3. Click Northwestern University Courses and select Add a Course.
  4. Scroll down to Question 5 to the HIPAA, Security and Privacy Training course. Check the Enroll me in this course checkbox and click Submit.
There are four modules available. Three of them are required and one is supplemental. Once you complete the training course, a completion certificate will be logged in the system and available for you to print.
