Setting up Remote Desktop on your macOS computer

These instructions are so that you can remote into your FSM PC from your Mac. Note that FSM IT must configure your FSM PC to accept remote connections.

 

  1. Connect to Northwestern VPN. For instructions on how to setup VPN please got to this page Setting up Northwestern VPN
  2. Go the App Store and download / install Microsoft Remote Desktop    RDP Search Results
  3. Once the application is open you need to setup new account:
    1. Click New
    2. Enter Connection Name - you can name it anything
    3. Enter PC Name (to find your PC click here Find my PC name (ex. FSM#########.fsm.northwestern.edu)
    4. In the Usernamefield enter fsm\NETID
    5. In the Password field enter your NetID password
    6. Once complete close out that window (click the red X)
    setup account
  4. Double-click  Connection name
  5. A black screen will pop up advising you that you are about to connect to your FSM PC - click Continue
    log in screen
