Feinberg IT has a limited number of laptops that may be checked out for use. Common use cases for these machines could be:

• Traveling abroad
• Waiting for a purchased device to arrive (proof of purchase required)
• Waiting for current device to be repaired by FSM IT
• Special events 

Requests should be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the requested pick-up date. If traveling, the pick-up date should be no later than 3 business days prior to travel. Emergency requests for a loaner laptop will be accommodated to the greatest extent possible. If laptops are not returned within 2 weeks of their return date (unless otherwise communicated), your department will be charged for the cost of the replacement.

Loaner laptops are subject to availability and are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

General International Travel

See below for a list of OFAC-sanctioned and military end-use countries. Users traveling to non-sanctioned countries may use their primary devices while travelling abroad. However, Feinberg IT can still provide a loaner laptop upon request to prevent loss or theft of primary devices. 

Users are still required to use DUO Multi-Factor Authentication while traveling internationally. Please review this page, Using Duo MFA while traveling internationally, for steps you may need to take prior to leaving to ensure you do not run into any issues while abroad. 

Travel to OFAC Sanctioned and Military End-Use Countries

All international travel should be registered with the Office of Export Controls and International Compliance to determine if any equipment, software, or data are subject to restrictions. More information on international travel as a member of the Northwestern University community can be found on the ECIC's website regarding International Travel and Federal Regulations.

OFAC Sanctioned Countries: These countries change over time but are currently Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, and certain regions of Ukraine (Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Sevastopol).

Military End-Use countries: These countries change over time but are currently Belarus, Burma, Cambodia, China, Russia, and Venezuela. There are also restrictions for several countries if the collaborator or intended recipient is affiliated with a military end-user or is a military end-use entity. As a result, collaborations or shipments, including material transfer agreements, tech transfer activities, licensing agreements, and joint ventures with these countries require more due diligence.

As Feinberg IT strives to protect our users, our assets, and meet international law and protocol, users traveling to these countries will be asked to utilize NUWorkspace to perform any work while abroad.  Upon returning to the United States, users should immediately cease using their loaner laptop. IT will wipe the device upon return.
