A new update to the Google Chrome web browser requires explicit permission before a website can send requests to the local network or loopback. Duo Desktop relies on the local loopback connection to authenticate. This change only affects Google Chrome version 142, releasing in late October 2025. Check your browser version before proceeding with the instructions below.
Note: These changes were originally announced for Google Chrome version 141. On September 29, 2025 Google delayed the change to Google Chrome version 142.
After upgrading to Google Chrome (version 142), you will be prompted to allow local network access when accessing Duo-authenticated resources. Click "Allow" to continue with authentication.

If you missed the prompt of selected "Block", follow these instructions to allow local network access.
- In Google Chrome, go to Settings
- Go to Privacy and security on the left navigation pane
- Go to Site Settings > Permissions > Additional permissions
- Go to Local network access
- Click on the three dots next to https://api-906cc653.duosecurity.com:433 and select Allow
