Body
There are multiple ways to send print jobs to the Northwestern Print MFDs from your University-owned unmanaged or personal device.
- Printing from the Northwestern Print WebPortal (PaperCut MF Print Management Software)
- Manually installing Print Drivers (Mobility Print)
Northwestern Print WebPortal
Web Print is a driver-less printing service that allows users to print by uploading documents from a web browser. No client software or driver installation is required. Within the portal, you can also
- Check your print account balance, including quotas, refunds, and Cat Cash funds (Student Only)
- See a list of all your print jobs being held in print queues.
- See the history of your print activity.
- Track your carbon footprint
Go to the Web Portal at https://print.northwestern.edu . If logging in from off campus, ensure you are on the Northwestern VPN.
Enter your NetID and Password and click Log in.
Select Web Print on the left side of the screen
Select Submit a Job
Select a printer queue based on your role or print need (for example, use the general print queues for a paid or volunteer appointment; use the StudentPay print queues for personal print jobs or student academic needs, including using print quotas). Two-sided, black and white printing (BW-Duplex) is strongly encouraged. NOTE: You will not be able to change from Duplex to simplex or black and white to Color at the device
Select Print Options and Account Selection.
Select the number of copies. Click on Upload Documents
Drag and drop a file or click on Upload from Computer.
Navigate to your file folder. Select your document. Click Open.
Once you’ve selected your file, click Upload & Complete.
Your file has been sent to the print queue.
See the Releasing Print Jobs article for steps to release your job at the printer using NetID authentication, Wildcard tap-to-release, and mobile touchless release using a QR code.
Installing Print Drivers for Northwestern Print
General Steps
- To run the Mobility Print Printer Setup Wizard, you will need administrator rights on your device.
- Make sure your device is connected to the eduroam WiFi network.
- From your device, click this link: https://print.northwestern.edu:9164/setup
- Instructions should appear to register your mobile device to Northwestern Print using Mobility Print.
- Select the BW [Virtual Queue] and the Color [Virtual Queue], which are designated for faculty and staff printing. Queues will default to duplex printing, but both can be changed to allow single-sided printing when necessary.
Follow the steps below based on your operating system:
You may consider deleting your old print drivers to avoid confusion, though they will no longer be operational once the MFD you are printing to is part of the Northwestern Print program.
*Note: Web Print is available as an alternative for additional operating systems or as an alternative to installing a print driver.
Verification
Send a test print! Don’t wait until you absolutely need to print to confirm the printers work with the print drivers.
When you attempt to print a file from your device, you should see your available Print Queues listed with the names below based on which queues you have access to or installed
