Microsoft Planner is a project and task management tool within the Microsoft 365 applications and add ins that enables users to create and manage plans, assign tasks, and track progress for both everyday task tracking and more structured project work.

Planner now provides a single, unified experience across Microsoft Teams, the web, and SharePoint. Existing Planner plans, tasks, and notifications continue without disruption, and no user action or data migration is required.

* Students do not have access to Microsoft 365 Copilot. Limited AI assisted features are available within Microsoft Planner.

 

Cost

Basic Microsoft Planner functionality is included at no additional cost with Microsoft 365.
Some advanced project and AI assisted features are optional and require additional licenses.

 

Planner Add-On Licenses:

Planner Premium

Planner Premium provides advanced project management capabilities and requires a Microsoft Project subscription. Users must have purchased  Project Plan 3 or Project Plan 5 subscription to access Planner Premium features. Planner Premium–related licenses may be purchased through iBuyNU via CDW.

Copilot in Planner

Copilot features in Planner enhance planning and task management with AI-powered assistance. Access to these features requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Copilot licenses may be purchased through iBuyNU via CDW.

 

How to Request Service

To request a new Planner, click the "New Planner Request" button to the right.
Planner plans can be created in one of the following ways.

  • Create a Planner plan within an existing Microsoft Team/SharePoint by completing the New Planner Request form and selecting the associated M365 group from the form. (Note you must be a current member of the associated Team/SharePoint to create a new Planner in that site)
    • Each Team may contain multiple Planner plans
    • The plan automatically uses the existing Microsoft 365 Group for permission and access
  • Request a standalone Planner plan
    • Click the Request Service button on this page
    • Complete the New Planner Request form
    • Leave the Group filed blank
    • A Microsoft 365 Group and SharePoint site are automatically created to ensure appropriate governance, access, and storage
