EndNote*

EndNote enables easy organization of bibliographic information. It allows users to store references in one place, export citations directly from databases, and cite their sources in Microsoft Word.

The following EndNote resources are available to members of the Northwestern community:

• Feinberg School of Medicine and affiliated hospitals - please use the EndNote Support Guide

Availability

• Installation is available for Windows (Win 10, Win 8, Win 7) and Mac OS.
• Licenses are available for current Northwestern faculty, staff, and students for personal or professional use, and can be installed on personal or departmental machines.
• If during installation of EndNote on a Windows computer you are asked for a product key, please quit the installation, extract all files from the downloaded .zip file, and run the installer.

System Requirements

• Please visit the EndNote site for Windows and Mac hardware and system requirements and word processor compatibility.

Download and Install

EndNote for Windows

1. Download EndNote for Windows.
2. Locate the downloaded EndNote zip file and right-click on it to extract the folder contained within it. Do not simply double-click the zip file.
3. Open the "EndNoteXWin" folder; double-click "ENXInst.msi" and follow the installation directions.

EndNote for Mac

1. Download EndNote for Mac.
2. Locate the downloaded EndNote zip file and double-click it to extract the folder contained within it.
3. Open the "EndNoteXMac" folder; double-click "EndNote Site Installer.dmg" and follow the installation directions.

Install and License

• Licenses are available for current Northwestern faculty, staff, and students for personal or professional use, and can be installed on personal machines.

Important Information for Hospital-based Affiliates

Your hospital's (e.g., CMH, NMH) firewall may prevent you from downloading this software while connected to their network. You can easily download EndNote by using a wireless or wired connection on the NU campus (e.g., Galter Library). You can also download EndNote at home using a VPN connection. Please contact your hospital's help desk if you must download the software to a computer on your hospital's network.
