Changing your NetID password remotely on a Northwestern-owned macOS computer

Tags macOS

Your Northwestern macOS computer is configured with a local account password. The steps outlined below will have you update your NetID password and show how to update your local Mac password to match your new NetID password.

Follow these steps:

  1. Make note of your current password in case you need it later.
  2. Change your NetID password at https://nuvalidate.northwestern.edu (for help see 1399).
  3. Follow the steps outlined at https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-the-login-password-on-mac-mchlp1550/mac to manually update your local user account password to match your new NetID password.
  4. Your NetID password has now been changed and your Mac's local computer password has been changed to match your NetID password.
If these steps don't work for you, continue using your current local account password when logging into your macOS computer, while using your new NetID password to log in to NetID-authenticated resources.
